How to Play Poker
The objective of poker is to win money by making the best decisions (bet, call, or fold) at the table based on the information you have available. The best way to achieve this goal is by playing your cards in such a way as to put yourself in position to take advantage of the board runouts and other player actions.
Players act in turns, and may raise a bet by matching or raising the previous player’s bet, or they may check, which means that they choose not to make a hand. The remaining players then show their cards and the player with the highest hand wins the pot. In some games, there are wild cards or other special rules that can alter the course of a hand.
A poker hand consists of five cards. A high pair consists of two cards of the same rank, a three of a kind consists of three cards of the same rank, a full house consists of four cards of the same rank, and a flush consists of any five consecutive cards from the same suit. If two hands have the same rank, the one with the higher card outside breaks the tie.
