How to Play Poker

Poker is a card game for two or more players. The player who has the best poker hand wins the pot.

Before the first round of betting, each player bets an ante. The ante is usually a small amount, like $1 or $5.

After the antes, the dealer deals two cards to each player. The players are then able to see these cards and decide whether to bet, fold or check.

In the next round, each player bets again. If no one folds, the remaining players reveal their hands and the player with the highest hand wins.

The dealer then shuffles the deck. If any of the hole cards turn face up during the deal, that is known as a burn card.

If the dealer reveals a burn card, the player is given an opportunity to cut their bet and receive one more card. If they do not cut, they lose their ante and all other bets made during the deal.

In most forms of poker, there are several betting rounds. In the first round, the ante and blinds are set. Once all players have bet, each player is dealt a pair of cards and may choose to fold, check or raise their bet.
