The Basics of Poker

Poker is a card game for two or more players. It involves betting, where each player puts an amount into the pot before they receive their cards. The player with the highest hand wins the pot. Players can discard their cards and draw replacements (depending on the rules of the game).

Depending on the rules of the game, one or more players may be required to place an initial amount of money into the pot before the cards are dealt. These are known as forced bets and come in three forms: antes, blinds, and bring-ins.
