While some people use strategies to improve their odds of winning a lottery, most simply buy a ticket and hope for the best. Those who do try to win, however, sometimes encounter tragedy. For example, Abraham Shakespeare was killed after he won $31 million in the Texas Mega Millions lottery; and Jeffrey Dampier and Urooj Khan were kidnapped and murdered after winning the comparatively tame $1 million Powerball lottery in 2006.<\/p>\n
